Description
In October of 2012, Hurricane Sandy pounded Cape Canaveral Beach. I went to the beach a few hours after it left our beach and it headed north. The surf was still a bit rough and the beach looked rough, too. The sea grapes, sea oats and grasses were strewn all over the beach in a haphazard fashion. A ruddy turnstone shore bird scurried through the foam. The sea foam clung to his feet. It looked like he was wearing snow shoes. I watched as he clumsily plodded over the beach. Other people walked along the beach to see the results of the storm. I indicated the gray day with the weak sunlight just beginning to glow at the horizon. Foam was piled up all along the shore. It looked as if the beach needed to be cleaned. The tide was still very high. Quite a bit of sand was washed away during the storm.
It feels as if I have had such a storm raging through me for many months as I battle with my Multiple Sclerosis. I won't go into all the symptoms but it has been incredibly difficult. I often felt as if I was hanging on to any of what is me just by my fingernails. I remember going through other hurricanes in previous years. I also remember going through the storms within my own body. The strength of some of the storms within and without... has been incredibly powerful. This is what my MS has felt like to me. I am not over this flare-up but am getting some windows of strength here and there. Much of the time I felt as if I was just losing ground just as the beach lost something to the huricane. I am battered much the same as the beach. I am not quite the same as I was before this latest storm hit. But I am beginning to feel a sense of hope. It is like the light weakly glowing through the departing storm clouds.

Wow! I love it so ethereal! I know it was after a bad storm but it makes me think of the song that goes after the storm there's a golden sky and the sweet silver song of the lark! So beautiful! I have seen the beach at Del Mar Ca. look like you described after a vicious storm but the painting is the peace after the storm!
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you so much, Bonnie. Yes....I grew up in California and remember seeing the beach after a storm. It is much the same.

Dear AnnaJo, beautiful painting...backstory...survivorship is often hidden in the minds and bodies of those who bear inner scars of many varieties...behind their masks. You are one of the courageous alchemists who transmutes pain into BEAUTY. LF...
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you ever so much Laurel. I feel the same can be said of you and your art. We are fortunate to have our art, aren't we?

This is a wonderful painting and even if it's from a photo after an hurricane, it does not carry feelings of sadness and despair, but hope and rebirth. Excellent work AnnaJo. Love it!
