Description
Melt
Sometimes, I like to get out of my comfort zone. I love to play with lettering. I actually took a class a gazillion years ago about the subject. I used to make up alphabets just for the fun of it. Of course, I had to learn how to letter when I was a board drafter. That was before the age of computers. I studied calligraphy, too. I used to earn a bit of money lettering certificates and cards.
I did this image of a word using my airbrush. I used ink to create this. It is on a 30 inch by 40 inch board. I hope that it looks as if the word is melting. The letters are supposed to look like melted cheese or butter on a dark chocolatey background. It took me quite a bit of time to create the stencils. The reservoir of the airbrush was tiny. I had to continually clean it and fill it. It took lots of time to do this simple image.
I did this and just a few other art pieces with my airbrush. I didn't really enjoy the lack of spontaneity with it. I put away my airbrush and haven't done anything with it in several years.
Funny that after so many years of careful drawing as a technical illustrator and as a drafter, that I rarely draw anymore. I enjoy jumping in with a brush full of paint and see where it leads me. I usually do very little planning.
