Description
We have had a lot of rainy days lately. I really had my heart set on going out to paint on locations somewhere outdoors. I have a couple paintings to work on at my easel. I wasn't in the mood to work on them. I thought that it might be a good idea to do something different. I haven't painted a still life in a long time. I found a couple red onions and a yellow one. I set them atop my table next to a window. I liked the textures. I have been experimenting with some slower drying acrylic paints. This means that I can blend them a little more before they dry like regular acrylic paints. However, I found that they can be a little tricky, too. When acrylic paints aren't thoroughly dry, the paint begins to pull up if you continue to work them. I, also, noted, that they seem to be a bit more transparent. Fiddling around with these various issues, I found myself piling on the paint more thickly than usual to get certain effects. Acrylic paints tend to dry darker than what they look like when you first apply them. This still holds true with the slower drying acrylics. This is a simple composition. It was a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon.
