Description
This is the beginning of a painting done in plein air along Tropical Trail on Merritt Island, Florida. It is just a couple miles from my home. It is a little pond that I drive by on a daily basis. I have been meaning to paint it for quite awhile. The weather has been so nice of late. I have been feeling better. I always seem to feel better when I am outside in the sun.
I drove my van through the vacant lot next to the pond. Sitting in the tailgate of my van, I set up my French easel. As I was painting, a few ducks flew out of the bushes. I hadn't even noticed that they were there! That was such a nice surprise. Then a flock of ibis flew in to see what I was up to. There must have been thirty or forty of them. They marched single file along the shore of the pond right in front of me. I debated with myself whether I should add them to the scene but they flew away before I was ready to do so.
A man stopped by. He came up to me from the side of the road and introduced himself to me. He told me that he was a preacher. He asked politely if I minded if he prayed for me. I smiled and said that would be nice. He stood next to me and prayed that I would create a nice painting. When he finished, he thanked me and left!
This is the painting in progress.

What a nice idea to show your paintings in the making! I like the painting better than the real thing.

Wonderful work Anna Jo, nothing like plein air and this is so fresh and painterly, fine work F/L

You are fortunate to be able to paint outdoors, your stories and colours are very soothing.
