Description
Painting SilverHeels
I sat in the tailgate in the full sun. While my friends were working on their boat, I painted the scene. One of them was working on the inside of the cabin, while one of them was touching up the outside. The captain carefully filled in various scratches with paint. He followed that with rubbing it down. It was all done with such care. They took turns keeping me company and watching me paint when they took breaks. Because the scene was at once too cluttered and too plain, I exaggerated the colors. They didn't want me to put in most of the clutter. I struggled to keep it simple and yet, interesting.
I used acrylic paint on a 16 by 20 inch canvas. It wasn't until, I had painted in some reflections that I realized that I had painted my van and myself! I was trying to understand where that dark reflection in the middle of the light blue came from. My van is a dark navy blue. SilverHeels is the name of their sailboat. They had me paint the name on the boat when they first purchased it. Unfortunately, I didn't do it well. My lettering was rather shaky and uneven. I stood on a high board and was unbalanced. It was awkward and too close to see the big picture. My MS symptoms were pretty bad that day. Vertigo is my most difficult issue. They made an executive decision and promptly erased my efforts. They used stencils to finalize it, themselves. A few days later, I decided that I could still do a painting of them even if I couldn't actually paint the boat. Since I could sit down on the tailgate, my balance wasn't such an issue. I worked on this for a couple afternoons. The warm sun was wonderfully comforting. Being with my dear friends was, also, comforting. It was all in all, a very nice couple afternoons.

AnnaJo, this is a great painting! A live setting capturing another work in progress just like the old masters did to record events and a slice of history on canvas. I enjoyed the description and love the painting. Beautiful! f,v
