Description
Port Canaveral Beach
This is a relatively old watercolor painting that I did en plein air of Port Canaveral Beach. I was enchanted by the old piers on the water's edge. My little sons were out playing along the beach as I worked on this. An afternoon storm was moving in. Boats, ships, and booms can be seen in the background at Port Canaveral. Australian Pines were on the left at the edges of the beach. They have since been removed because they were considered an invasive species. Even the old piers have long ago been removed because they were considered a hazard.
This is a relatively large watercolor painting. It was a bit of a challenge to do because of the freshening wind. Sand was beginning to blow through the air. I remember the peace and joy of the day. It was so pleasant to spend the afternoon with my sons. They were having a good time playing together both in the water and on the beach. Just as the first raindrops began, I quickly gathered up my supplies and put them in the car. Of course, I gathered up my two little boys, too. The storm gathered quickly, just as it often does in this area.
Jetty park is also in the background. This was during the days before it was really developed with many facilities and board walks, and fishing piers.
I was there a few days ago and was greatly aware of the changes throughout the years. It is a popular destination for fishing, camping, and boating. I painted this in 1991 on heavy watercolor paper.

Beautiful painting AnnaJo! I love paintings of beaches and history. The water movement and pilings in the distance are really great! F,L

thank you so very much, Jimmie. Too bad that the pilings no longer are there. I thought them pretty interesting, too.
