Description
This soft shelled turtle and I had a show down, staring at each other fpr quite awhile. He pulled his head in a few times, too. Finally, he quickly strolled by with determination.

Too cute! There are no turtles in our neck of the woods & the sale of turtles is illegal in Alberta! Go figure. Excellent capture! V/F
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Ahhhh...sorry that you don't have turtles. They are quite plentiful here. It isn't unusual for me to stop to retrieve a slow moving turtle crossing the road and assist it to safety on the other side. It is illegal to do that, but some laws seem silly.

What is this species of turtles?
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
This is Florida softshell turtle. I should amend my description and make it a bit more detailed. It is the largest turtle of this type.

Anna-Jo, This is a wonderful picture! I loved turtles as a child, but never had one quite like this! I especially like the close focus! FV
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thanks, Susan. I got down on the ground in front of her. I think it was a female because she was so large. She was miffed that I wouldn't get out of her way or out of her face. I finally allowed her to get by me after I got some photographs.
