Artist's Description

I found this growing beneath my oak tree. This is on Merritt Island, Florida. There were a lot of mushrooms. Many different kinds, I think. However, I don't know much about mushrooms, so they may have all been the same variety. Perhaps they were at different stages of maturity? I was enchanted with the rich colors of this one. I could see the violet colors along the top, which were likely a reflection of the sky. I am not absolutely sure what type of mushroom this is. I am guessing that it is a Boletus edulis. Does anyone know if I am correct? Is this safe to eat?
I took this particular photo with my cell phone. Actually, it is an IPhoneXs Max.
The composition is simple enough. I am considering using it as information for inclusion in one of my paintings.

While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. I studied mostly engineering in college but ended up with a degree in Technical Illustration, one in Psychology after several moves and colleges, one in Art Education. My experience as a...
