Description
I painted this at Cocoa Beach, Florida. I wouldn't call it a traditional plein air painting, though. I was actually at a friend's home a block from the beach for the beginning of it. She wanted to watch my method. After painting with her there, I walked over to the beach and studied it for a while. I soaked in the atmosphere and the setting sun. The clouds grew before my eyes. Some of them grew dark threatening rain, but it never did. I watched the movement of the seagulls as they flew off into the distance. Once I was back home at my own easel, I continued to flesh out the painting. I tried to imbue it with the movement of the gentle surf and the birds. Using a photo I had taken of a flying pelican recently, I added that to the sky. It is all a kind of impression of the day...some of it from nature and some of it just with my memories. I was pleased to keep it relatively simple. It was a nice day full of soothing pleasant experiences.

I like this... the tropical skies are very different than what we see at the temperate latitudes :>))

Thank you Phil. Yes, it is fascinating to see how different the skies look in different parts of the world, isn't it?
