Description
I've painted this giant oak tree several times over the years. It isn't far from my house on Merritt Island. Festooned with Spanish moss, it seems a bit like a bearded old man. It changes constantly with each season and each year. It is next to an old orange grove. Over the years, I have seen a variety of birds and animals in and under it. All seem to make it their own home. In this particular painting, I have included an osprey, which was watching a foolish squirrel from the top of it's heavy boughs. This is a winter scene. Remember that this is what this part of Florida looks like in the winter. Because it is a Live Oak, it doesn't shed all it's leaves. They just get a little more sparse. I painted this in plein aire, as I have done in the past and am likely to do in the future.

Beautifully done, interesting name?
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thanks Tony. My sons called it that because we often saw a cop parked under the tree watching for speeders.

Thank you so much, Debbie. Lots of people have. In fact, I neglected to mention that it is a favorite spot for the police to hide off the road. That's why I gave it the title.
