Description
This is a watercolor painting I did many years ago of my son, Marcus. We were spending the day at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Because it was a warm day, he wore shorts. Knowing that it was likely to rain, he also wore he favorite light wind breaker. It had the logo of the Space Center which was comprised of a painting of the Space Shuttle. His father worked for EG&G at Kennedy Space Center at the time. Marcus loved all things to do with the space program. He had his trusty umbrella with him. Unfortunately, when a gust of brisk wind hit, the umbrella broke. One of the supporting spokes broke free from the canopy of the umbrella. Nevertheless, as it lightly rained, he continued to use it. His figure reflected in the wet pavement. He was enjoying looking through the bushes at something. I am not sure what it was he was studying. Perhaps, he was lost in thought. Perhaps, he was just savoring the experience. I was happy that he was happy. That is what mattered most. Since it was a watery day, it seemed appropriate that I paint the scene in watercolor. I kept the painting rather loose and simple. It is basically just a study. I intended to do a more carefully studied painting of him with his umbrella some time in the future. Unfortunately, I never have gotten around to it. It is one of my favorite paintings of him, just the same.
