Description
This is one of my early acrylic paintings, My son, Marcus, is the primary subject. His father is in the background mowing our large backyard. Marcus had his own brightly colored lawn mower to use, as you can see. He happily pushed that mower around for a couple hours. He worked with serious determination. He seemed a bit concerned whether he ought to mow the yellow dandelion flower/weeds. It seemed as if he had dressed to match his mower. I was still learning how to work with acrylic and tried to keep it all fairly simple. I used to paint in oil. This is a 24 inches by 36 inches canvas. I struggled a bit to understand how to work with paints that didn't have a nice long openness for easier blending. I wasn't adept at getting skin tones. However, as with each painting, I learned.
Of course, as a young mother, my son was always my favorite subject. He probably thought that it was normal to have a new painting on the easel all his life. I almost didn't need to have a photograph album around. One just had to walk into our home and see paintings of him all over the walls.
It seemed to me, that his every action deserved a painting. Everything that he did was remarkable to me. He handled being painted and/or photographed with easy grace. It was just the way life was. He humored me in my artistic ventures. He had and still does have a great deal of patience.

My sons also loved "mowing" the lawn - unfortunately, by the time they were old enough mow the lawn, the love had waned!

What a great piece! You really captured the moment. I like the little pot bellies on both the little boy and the old man. So fun!

Such a sweet painting, AnnaJo. I love how his dad mowing in the background echoes your son in the foreground, going opposite ways. This is really brilliant. vote.like
