This is an acrylic diptych based on a scene in East Central Florida. It isn't far from my house on Merritt Island. I noticed that these two trucks were placed out in a field by the road. A wooden fence was between them and Tropical Trail. Between and behind them was a wooden sign which says: “Smile, You're on Camera.” Of course, this caused me to smile.
I drove by it several more times before I decided do a painting of it. At first, I just intended to do a painting of the red truck. I very much love the colors. The bright fire engine red glowed brightly against the background of natural green vegetation.
I took some photographs of it. I began to do the painting in my home studio. I drove out to it often to study the details. Unfortunately, before I could complete the painting it disappeared. I don't know what happened to it. Fortunately, I was nearly finished with the painting before it disappeared.

Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. I studied mostly engineering in college but ended up with a degree in Technical Illustration, one in Psychology after several moves and colleges, one in Art Education. My experience as a...

This is so very well done, right down to the tiniest detail. I've always had a special place in my heart for old trucks....seeing them takes me back to rides on the farm as a kid. I like the story your wrote telling of your experience while painting this. I wonder where the red truck went.......? like/f
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you so very much, Anne. I believe that it is likely that they were sold. There is now an old trailor in the same location. Hmmmm

Love your description of how this work came together, AnnaJo. (I mentally flipped the images and it works either way, though I like the pairing best as you have it-goes with the title more). The brilliant colors are awesome! The whole scene seems as it was set for you to discover. L/F
