Description
I don't always work the same way when I begin a painting. I am currently still working out a painting I'm doing of a photograph. I took it on Park Avenue in Winter Park, Florida. I seem to be doing a series of this type of subject. This is is of several people having drinks in front of a sidewalk cafe. They have there dogs with them. I sorta sketched things in a bit loosely. I am still working out shapes and colors. I work a little here and then randomly move to another area. Sometimes this is because I want to allow an area to dry before I further develop it. Sometimes it is just because I am tired of that spot and want to work elsewhere. Sometimes, I am just working out with certain patterns and colors throughout the painting. Painting is organic with me. I rarely follow any particular rules. I often change my mind, move things around, change them, or take them in or out. I should plan better but I don't enjoy the planning. I just want to jump in and paint. It is the act of painting that I so much enjoy. This habit of not planning ahead often causes problems for me. I don't always know where I am going or how I am going to get there. I believe that this is one of the reasons that painting is so therapeutic for me. I have to work things out. It surprises me so often to find out where it takes me.

I love how you are open about your process of making art. It is funny how it works. Often the public loves something simple we almost don't show or post. Then they ignore what we think is our masterpiece. I think the making of it is the true value.

Thank you, Dick. I agree with your comment. It is the process for me that is most important. The product is a bonus.
