Description
Hickory Hole painting in progress at Sam's House. This tree is at Sams House Nature Center on North Merritt Island. This is a couple miles south of the Kennedy Space Center. This is just inland of the East coast of the Indian River Lagoon. The trees in the background are actually along the water's edge. They are mostly live oak trees, which are quite common to Central Florida. This Hickory Tree is believed to be 300 years old. I set up my French Easel just outside the opened tailgate of my van. I took this photograph from inside my van. You can see the paper pallet that I use with small piles of acrylic paint around the edges. I have been experimenting with a new kind of paint. It dries more slowly than traditional acrylic paints. I outermost edge of my palette has the slower drying polymer paints and the inner row of colors are the traditional fast drying type. With the two of them, I have been seeing if I can cause the paints to dry at exactly the rate that I want them to dry. When I am first laying in the painting, I prefer the fast drying paints. As the painting progresses and I am trying to blend certain places more carefully, I use the slower paints. I am still working out the pros and cons of all of this. I tend to use the traditional acrylic paints for the most part. Perhaps, it is because it is what I am accustomed to. I may be wrong, but they feel as if they are more dense in color. The slower paints seem a bit more delicate. They, also, seem more transparent.
