Hickory Hole painting in progress at Sam's House.This tree is at Sams House Nature Center on North Merritt Island. This is a couple miles south of the Kennedy Space Center. This is just inland of the East coast of the Indian River Lagoon. The trees in the background are actually along the water's edge. They are mostly live oak trees, which are quite common to Central Florida. This Hickory Tree is believed to be 300 years old. I set up my French Easel just outside the opened tailgate of my van. I took this photograph from inside my van. You can see the paper pallet that I use with small piles of acrylic paint around the edges. I have been experimenting with a new kind of paint. It dries more slowly than traditional acrylic paints. I outermost edge of my palette has the slower drying polymer paints and the inner row of colors are the traditional fast drying type. Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. I studied mostly engineering in college but ended up with a degree in Technical Illustration, one in Psychology after several moves and colleges, one in Art Education. My experience as a...
