Description
While in North Carolina last month, we drove through some little mountain towns. It was a gray misty and rainy day. We were enjoying all the fall leaves. Because of the rain, we felt lucky to see them before they all fell. We were delighted to see this little antique store on the side of the road. I jumped out in the rain and took a few photos. Loved the notion that the place was called BlackBearCreek. It actually had a wooden Indian out front!
I thought that it would be a challenge to paint such a complicated scene. It certainly was. All those signs! All those objects that weren't always easy to understand. I exaggerated the wetness and the reflections. It was fun exaggerating and pumping up the colors. I really wanted to indicate the blustery day and the cool atmosphere. This is a rainy day in the mountains.
According to Wikipedia, Bear Creek is an unincorporated community in southwestern Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. It is named for a nearby creek that eventually flows into the Rocky River. The community lies along Old US Highway 421 and is situated between Siler City and Goldston.
Bear Creek is home to Southern Supreme, a mail-order gourmet foods company best known for manufacturing fruitcakes.
