Description
There are times when I just can't seem to get an image out of my head. This seems to happen especially often when I am going through a rough time in my life. I have been going through such a time lately. When I reached in my mind for a happy memory, I kept coming back to this subject. This is about an evening I spent by myself with a pack of baby Florida red foxes. There were six of them. They seemed to be of different sizes and maturity making me think that they might have been a couple of litters playing together. There were two dens situated close to each other in Rockledge, Florida.
I had seen a couple of the kits earlier that morning but couldn't get a good view of them because of the morning fog. I returned to the den site just before sunset. I saw one lone baby fox exploring the nearby area. He drank from a puddle and kept a goodly distance from me. I laid down on the ground and watched quietly. The mother fox watched me from across the large puddle. She stood for a long time looking at me. Then, she simply turned away and left her young kit with me! I inched forward on my belly on the ground. The kit casually came closer and closer to me but trotted on by to the den. He went inside the den out of sight.
I continued my vigil and inched closer but kept myself low on the ground. Just as I was about to give up, six pups/kits emerged! They mostly ignored my presence at first and frolicked and played with each other just outside the entrance of their den. As the sun dropped low over the horizon, they slowly began to approach me. As you can see, one of them seemed much braver. The others had a variety of reactions. This reminded me of life in general...how each person has different personalities. I was enchanted.
I painted this with a pallet knife and then touched things up here and there with brushes. The setting sun backlit their fur causing them to glow with an ethereal unreality. This is a 30" by 40" heavy duty gallery wrapped canvas. I used acrylic paints.

Hi, AnnaJo, I was trying to edit my original group, yesterday, and found myself with a 2nd groups of the same name. Now I find myself in a quandary. There are 6 wonderful images on group 2 that I need to get to group 1 of the same name. The photo on the original group is a closeup of my kitty of just her little face and eyes. I am sorry I didn't get this changed right away but I wan't sure what to do. Please, please, please, may I ask you to put this adorable image into the original group so I may close the unintentional, 2nd group. I truly do not want to loose you from my original group.
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you, Phillis for all your efforts and your encouragement. I will try to do as you asked when I can figure it out.
