Tropical Trail Trio
Artist
AnnaJo Vahle
Medium
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Description
Mostly painted on location as I sat in the shade of this beautiful old gnarly oak tree festooned with copious amounts of Spanish moss. A trio of squirrels makes the tree home with a nice comfortable nest nestled in the strong boughs.

Dear AnnaJo, I love that you addressed the importance of: redefining one’s reference by choosing different materials and textures, by de-cluttering, by being mindful of directing the viewer’s eye “to travel within” when composing an image. I also love the explanation of “the Golden mean” and how the other elements of colour palette, hue and value also influence overall design and composition. No wonder your work is always EXCITING, Engaging and Beautiful and so appealing. Thank you for your ongoing significant contributions to both the contest exhibit and this blog discussion. SO grateful, AnnaJo!

I love the beautiful form of this tree. Nice work AnnaJo! v
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you, Julie. It is a lovely tree and is pruned fairly often because it is near a road. This was the first of a few paintings that I did of it.

I love your use of lines and your tonal quality is beautiful.Though my eye is tempted to escape the composition along the branches, your use of light pulls me back into the center for more play.f/v
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thanks, Sean. You are so observant to see my attempts at trying to keep the viewer engaged even as I try to break various rules of composition. Thank you!

Such a wonderful composition. Loved your choice of colors. Sure looks like a wonderful place to paint.
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thanks, Jim. Yes, I have enjoyed painting the same tree from various angles throughout the years as it changes and matures.
