Description
This is the second portrait of our cat, Saphira. She is a tortoise shell tabby. This particular pose is cute. I was just about to make the bed. However, she decided that it was a comfortable place to be at that particular moment. She was getting ready to take a nap on our bed. She was on some sheets and pillows. I liked the way that the wrinkles caused the lines to point to her. Nice compositional idea. The sheets were not really yellow. I just instinctively changed the color from white to yellow. It seemed to contribute the the warmth of the scene. It, also, seemed to compliment her warm gray colors. Honestly, I was just in the mood!
She is a friendly little cat. Like all cats, she spends a great deal of time sleeping. When she isn't sleeping or asking for our attention, she is often “bathing.” I find it amazing that she can curl up into interesting positions so that she can reach every part of herself with her raspy pink tongue. She has both her front legs on one side sorta in front, one on top of the other. She pulled up her hind leg so that she good properly groom it and lick her hind foot.
She has a pink belly covered with fine white fur. Last year she had an allergy that caused her to go a little crazy with grooming. She itched all over and pulled out quite a bit of her fur. Her belly was entirely naked for awhile. It has mostly grown back in after we treated her for her allergies for a few months.
This is a 16” by 20” inch canvas. I used slower drying acrylic paints. It looks a lot like oil and has many of the same characteristics. It is a transparent paint. This meant that I had to paint many layers to get the vivid yellow for which I was looking.

This charming and magnificent painting of Saphira instantly melted my heart AnnaJo!! wonderful layers of colours and the details of her fur is outstanding. love the golden yellow sheet which compromise her fur colours beautifully. yes, i too enjoy watching my cats doing cat yoga when they bath. i love it more when they stick their tongue out after bathing and forgot to put it back inside their mouth. :D i love this adorable painting!!
