It is a bright sunny morning with the riverboat at dock on the Indian River in Cocoa, Florida. The bright reds of the trim,l paddle wheel and American flag seem to glow against the pure whites of the boat. The reflection is just beginning to ruffle in the freshening morning breeze. Over the years, I have painted a variety of boats, including other riverboats that have sat at this very same dock. I just might have to do yet another painting. It is so very pretty. I believe that this one is called the Indian River Queen. People book tours and parties on it.
Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. I studied mostly engineering in college but ended up with a degree in Technical Illustration, one in Psychology after several moves and colleges, one in Art Education. My experience as a...
