Artist's Description
This is one of several paintings I did of this subject. Ellen Marie was a fishing boat that lost power while out at sea. It drifted onto Cocoa Beach. It couldn't quite make it to Port Canaveral. It was just a few miles away. All of the fisherman were safe. It was stranded on the sandy beach for several days.
Crowds of people walked by and looked at it with curiosity. Some didn't seem to pay much attention to it at all. A boy straightens the towel on his little sister. A man applies suntan lotion on the back of his wife near the surf. Another man strolls by carrying his sandals. A small crowd stands and looks at the beached boat.
The Cocoa Beach Pier is in the background. Some shops and restaurants are on the pier. The surf is calm. A flock of seagulls soar in the sky making a lot of noise. They are hoping for some tidbits, I think. Maybe they can find some fish aboard the boat? They did seem especially interested in it.

I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. I studied mostly engineering in college but ended up with a degree in Technical Illustration, one in Psychology after several moves and colleges, one in Art Education. My experience as a...
