Artist's Description
This is the beginning of a painting done in plein air along Tropical Trail on Merritt Island, Florida. It is just a couple miles from my home. It is a little pond that I drive by on a daily basis. I have been meaning to paint it for quite awhile. The weather has been so nice of late. I have been feeling better. I always seem to feel better when I am outside in the sun.
I drove my van through the vacant lot next to the pond. Sitting in the tailgate of my van, I set up my French easel. As I was painting, a few ducks flew out of the bushes. I hadn't even noticed that they were there! That was such a nice surprise. Then a flock of ibis flew in to see what I was up to. There must have been thirty or forty of them. They marched single file along the shore of the pond right in front of me. I debated with myself whether I should add them to the scene but they flew away before I was ready to do so.

About AnnaJo Vahle
Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. I studied mostly engineering in college but ended up with a degree in Technical Illustration, one in Psychology after several moves and colleges, one in Art Education. My experience as a...
