Description
The American Flag waves in the breeze from the mast on the boat. An anchor hangs uselessly in the air as the boat is obviously not going anywhere without assistance. Each day, the boat became ravaged by people retrieving souvenirs and by the wind, rain, and water. I think that it was there about a week before it was declared an eye-sore and a hazard. There wasn't much left of it before it was hauled away in pieces. I was saddened by the end of somebody's dream and of the boat.
This is one of several paintings I did of this subject. It is 15 inches by 22 inches on rough heavy watercolor paper. Ellen Marie was a fishing boat that lost power while out at sea. It drifted onto Cocoa Beach. It couldn't quite make it to Port Canaveral. It was just a few miles away. All of the fisherman were safe. It was stranded on the sandy beach for several days.
