On my way to a wooded copse nearby, I saw this old ruin of a house up on a hill. A big flock of vultures were sitting on top and flying all around it. The windows were boarded over. Spanish moss drapes from the nearby trees. I found this the day after Halloween. There must be many stories about what happened in this house overlooking the Indian River in Cocoa, Florida. I hope to go back and see if I can find out and maybe do a plein air painting of it.
Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography. Fascinating....as I think old boarded up houses are by nature. But this one especially so, as one has to wonder why so many vultures are there. What stories! v/f
