Description
I recently found a forgotten stash of old paintings that I had done when I was much younger. They were in the back of a closet having been placed there decades ago. Some were deteriorating due to neglect and poor treatment. This oil painting is cracking and crazing. I intend to clean it but wanted to document it immediately before I did.
I used to live in a village called, Belpasso, on the side of Mt. Etna in Sicily. I took my dog for a walk every morning. This man, a local farmer, used to come by about the same time on his mule-drawn cart. I was trying to teach myself how to paint and asked Nino if I might do a painting of him. He modestly but proudly allowed it. I didn't speak much Italian yet and he didn't speak any English. It was a quiet friendship.
