Description
This is a 21 inch by 28 inch watercolor painting on heavy watercolor paper..
I did this plein air painting in 1993 when my son, Marcus, was 9 years old. It seems like it was just yesterday. I realized recently that I had never shown it publicly. The bentwood rocker was the difficult part for me. All those turns in the wood! Once I completed the painting, I simply hung it on the wall in our home. I thought that it might be a good idea to finally add it to my web site gallery.
In those days, we spent a lot of time out on the back deck by the pool. This is a painting depicting one of those days. We were sitting around having a nice conversation. I believe that Marcus probably shed his clothes shortly after I began this painting and jumped into the pool. I seem to remember that he was splashing around in the water with his brother while I worked on this painting.
We had a bentwood rocker on the back porch. It used to be where I fed and cuddled with my sons. That rocker has long ago disappeared. However, this reminds me of happy familial times.

Love this wonderful portrait and memory. You have also really captured the rocker...one can almost anticipate the movement! Well done!

What a beautiful story and warm memories within. My son, now 32, recently was given a bentwood rocker and it's his favorite piece of furniture. Mine, too! Our children truly do grow up so fast...... like/f/vote
