Description
My son gave me this vase many years ago with lily flowers. I have saved the vase ever since. I like the simple lines and the blue color. I usually keep it full of some of my paint brushes.
I began the painting based on a bad photo. I took it when I first got it. Because the photo was so bad, I couldn't really see the details and wasn't quite sure of it all. We bought a spray of flowers that included some lilies like the ones that I got originally in the vase. I think that they are tiger lilies. These flowers included some sunflowers and some purple ones.
I made up the composition. As usual, I didn't have a preliminary sketch, design or exact idea. I just built the bouquet with my imagination and paints. I only used the real flowers to help me understand the details. It is October, so it seems appropriate to have flowers this color. I liked the oranges, yellows, blue and purples.
It reminds me a little of some of the paintings done by Vincent Van Gogh. It is mostly because of the sunflowers.
