Description
This is the third painting in the series that I have done of what is now an Antique shop. It used to be called the Chapel of St. Catherine's Greek Church. It is located in Melbourne, Florida. I did the first painting on location...en plein air. I called it “Junk and Co.” The second painting is done of the building in a ¾ view. I didn't include the handicap ramps and rails in any of the paintings. This, the third painting is of an old truck being used as the sign for the Antique shop. I found the rusty finish of the vehicle interesting. I like the variety of words and signage. The old signal traffic light is really there hanging from an old cross. I'm not sure why the bottom light of the four lights is black. That is a conundrum to me. The background bushes had some pretty reddish, pinkish flowers. There were a few old flower pots in front of the truck on the grass.
This is an acrylic painting on a 16” by 20” gallery wrapped stretched canvas. All three paintings of this series are the same size.
The man, who owns the antique shop showed us around the shop and the grounds. He told us that someone had bought one of the signs on the shop. That is one reason that he now uses the truck for a sign. It is rather interesting to see the religious crosses and symbols throughout the property. They are not being dishonored but are in an unusual environment. The property and the shop have an fascinating eclectic collection of stuff. The owner told us that he had collected things from all over the world. It is certainly a good place to visit. I intend to go back for another visit soon. It was a peaceful place to paint. It was an interesting challenge and good for the soul.
