For Nancy
This is a special painting for Nancy and Jerry. This is their favorite type of wine. Their home is decorated beautifully with many shades of red. I tried to keep to this theme. I painted this still-life with acrylics on a 24 inch by 30 inch stretched gallery wrapped canvas. Various types of wine glasses surround the unopened bottle of wine. Dark red grapes are in the foreground on top of a wooden table. Wine glasses are suspended along the top above the still-life. I enjoyed dancing the colors, shadows and reflections throughout the painting. It has some realistic elements based on reality but it is mostly made up....a figment of my imagination. I wanted to give the sense of warmth.
The glasses don't all match. I enjoyed depicting the differences. The foreground glasses are based on some of my own. I based the suspended glasses on those of one of our favorite restaurants. I went into the kitchen there and took some photos of the glasses. I thought that would be another unique touch of something meaningful for them.
Since the bottle of wine was the star, I tried to arrange the other elements to be of a supporting nature. It is a relatively large still-life, but that added another challenge for me as an artist. It has been a good while since I have done any still-life paintings. They haven't seen it yet, but I fervently hope that Nancy and Jerry will like it. Perhaps, we will share the bottle of wine soon?
