Description
I accidentally deleted this painting and had to resubmit it.
It was a few minutes past 8 A.M. The morning sun tried to light the day but huge billowing cumulonimbus clouds massed in the sky keeping large areas darkened. It had been showering intermittently all morning. The Florida air was soft and warm. We shuffled through the Cocoa Beach sand towards the water's edge. We looked to the north and saw the huge Artemis I rocket in the light on the left side of the horizon. A curtain of rain surrounded it at the Kennedy Space Center. The Artemis I was spotlighted as if it was a stage setting. It was quite a dramatic scene.
We watched the clock on our phones in anticipation. A minute before it was supposed to launch, it was postponed. At first, we thought that it might have been because of the weather. However, the NASA Space Launch System rocket team recommended a “no-go” for launch after engineers had been unable to fix a persistent hydrogen leak.
Artemis 1 is a planned uncrewed Moon-orbiting mission. It will be the first spaceflight in NASA's Artemis program, and the first flight of the agency's Space Launch System rocket and the complete Orion spacecraft. NASA is currently targeting a launch window starting from 14 November 2022.
I did this painting based on some of the photographs that I took that morning on August 29, 2022.
