Description
I was living on the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily, Italy, many years ago. I was taught myself how to do batik. This one of the images I made. This is the scene from my back yard when I lived in a villa towards the bottom of the volcano. Mt. Etna is a live volcano and always had an eruption going. The peak was covered with snow during the winter. Wild prickly pears grew over many of the areas on the mountain sides.
At first I painted all the areas of the image with melted wax everywhere except the white and blue areas. I dyed the cloth blue. Next I dyed the green areas of the prickly pear plant. I liked that it was red and green, which made for the Christmas colors. Then I dyed the red areas, followed by the purple areas. I liked the crackles of color from where the wax cracked as I dyed the fabric.

Still beautiful :) I've been doing some Japanese artwork lately, and this reminds me of Fuji-san :)
