Description
Her name is Gypsy. She is a long-haired chihuahua. She looks a little like a fluffy dust mop with four legs. Cute. She is a sweet natured little one. Loves to kiss and kiss and kiss. Our friends adopted her a couple of years ago. She was an older dog, who had a long history of abuse. Our friends brought her home on a trial basis to see if she would get along with their cat. Everyone in the household fell in love with her.
Okay...the cat was just okay with the little dog at first. Let us just say that there was no problems and that it didn't take long for them to adjust to each other. Our friends fell in love with her. She had some issues that needed to be dealt with. Within a few days, she had all but a couple teeth pulled. Poor little thing. She couldn't chew but she was able to keep her tongue from hanging out of her mouth all the time. That had been a concern. Our friends were happy to cook and puree her food so that she ate well.
Sadly, the cat died a few months after Gypsy moved in with them. Gypsy became the queen of their home and enjoyed all the attention. Five months ago, our kind-hearted friends, brought home a stray kitten. Once again it was a temporary visit to see if everyone could get along. Of course, it wasn't long before it was obviously another permanent family member.
Gypsy is just a little dog of seven pounds. The kitten was smaller than that at first but she has grown twice the size of Gypsy. They both have plenty of love and a happy life now.
This is an acrylic painting on a 11 inch by 14 inch watercolor stretched canvas. I painted this alla prima or all in one day. I intend to give it to our friend as a surprise.

AnnaJo, this is such a soulful portrait with a courageous backstory! It is so befitting that you painted gypsy in tones of gold and purple to highlight her regal bearing despite her dysfunctional beginnings. She is one lucky lady now! One of my many, many favs of your portfolio! LF
