Description
Biolab Road is a 6-mile dirt road that runs north to south along Mosquito Lagoon. It lies with-in Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. You can't always see the water due to brush and other vegetation. However, some sections are right on the water.
It is one of my favorite places to go relax and observe wildlife. I can heal my soul. One morning, I came across this view. It is on the north end of the road not too far from the boat ramp. The road was washed out because of a recent storm.
Biolab Road is a great place to see wildlife within Merritt Island National Wildlife and Canaveral National Seashore. However, this day, everything was quiet. That appealed to me. I liked the reflections in the puddle. The colors were deep, dark and mysterious.
Most mornings out there I have seen huge flocks of water birds such as pelicans, roseate spoonbills, egrets, herons, Florida wood storks, coots, ducks and many others. Ospreys, bald eagles, hawks, and many other birds are prevalent. I have done paintings of alligators out there. I could go on and on about all the wildlife there. However, this is not about that. This is about the beauty of the landscape and sky all on it's own.
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is a 140,000 acres U.S. National Wildlife Refuge on the Atlantic coast of Florida's largest barrier island. NASA's Kennedy Space Center and visitor complex are also situated on the island and NASA can restrict access to the refuge based on its operational needs.
This impressionistic acrylic painting is on a 30” by 40” stretched premium linen.
