Description
Isn't this something that all of us have done? We have all shared photos with our friends. I don't remember what it was that they were sharing. We were all attending a big dinner in Daytona, Florida. Judy is a grandmother and may well have been sharing photos of that nature. However, she is also an avid flower gardener. I have been privileged to see many of her beautiful flowers.
This scene intrigued me because it is something so familiar in all our lives these days. I simplified the background. It wasn't because of artistic laziness. I did start to put in the many shelves of bottles on the wall behind them but it seemed that the business behind them took away from the main subjects. I wanted this painting to be about the two friends. I chose colors for their dresses that seemed to go together and were significant to the event. I made up other details. That is part of the fun of doing something that is sorta based on reality but not slavish to it.
When designing a composition, I add elements, take some away, and alter others. It is all about what I want to express. I have been ill much of the time that I worked on this. For various reasons I had to take many long breaks from this. As a result, I must admit that I have lost some of my original excitement and decided that it was time to sign it. However, while painting it during the pandemic, it has helped me to feel better by taking out of myself, by remembering fun times. I believe that I achieved the essence of what I intended to show.
