Description
It is Easter Sunday. It is a very different Easter for the entire world. Because of the COVID 19 pandemic, we are in quarantine We are relegated to staying at home. Home is a safe place for now. I am taking advantage of this by working on my art. I am, also, doing quite a bit more cooking than I have done in a long time.
We are fortunate in that we have some good friends down the street with a garden. They have been kindly providing us with some of their fresh tomatoes. They have so much more flavor than tomatoes from the grocery store! Because we are in Central Florida, the gardens are producing most of the year. We are especially fond of Caprese Salad. That is a simple salad of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar. This particular day I thought to add some avocado to the salad. I didn't actually put any garlic in the dish but I thought that it would look nice in the composition.
I placed the vegetables on a white cloth on the desk next to my easel. Natural light came in through the glass doors on the right. I didn't try to be realistic or slavish to the background and foreground. I was playing with shapes and colors. I was inspired by the folds of the cloth.
This is a 8 inch by 13 inch professional quality museum wrapped stretched canvas. This is a golden mean sized canvas meaning that it is considered aesthetically pleasing to the human eye. I used acrylic paints in a loose brushy style. Everything about creating this little painting was therapeutic. I forgot about the virus throughout the world. It took a couple hours to create this en plein air or al fresco. After completing this...we ate the salad. Delicious! And now...I plan to give the painting to our friend, who gave us the tomatoes as a surprise thank you gift. I hope that he and his wife like it.
