Medium
Painting - Goauche On Paper
Description
This is a sepia gouache painting on heavy watercolor paper. It is 28 inches tall by 21 inches wide. Umber was the only color I used. No white or any other color was used.
It is a still life of the beginning of a stew. A large pot, a wooden cutting board, a red bell pepper and a green bell pepper, a couple of big potatoes, and a large red plastic ladle are depicted. I used a large burgundy sheet draped behind it for a background.
I set myself a challenge of trying to achieve the sense of colors without actually using them. I painted this al fresco since I was in a hurry to make dinner. This is the first time I used gouache as a painting medium. It was a challenge for me. I did this many years ago. I was about to make a big pot of stew and thought that I should do a quick painting of it before I used the ingredients.

LOVE this Annajo…how did you KNOW.? That was last week’s weekend dinner, broths mixed meat stew and freshly baked yeast rolls to greet the COOL wave 40 degreed nighttime lows and 60 degreed daytime highs. This week…it’s white meat Chili over rice with a side salad…yes, my Dutch oven is getting a workout…:-)

So studied and beautiful ...looks like it was done over a longer period of time. Greta work, AnnaJo! L/F

I was surprised that it all came together as quickly as it did. I was in the groove.

AnnaJo...this is masterful...there is something about loving a thing and painting its essence under time constraint...it doesn’t allow the ego to be involved...it is PURE SOUL ESSENCE ...of that which is gazed upon + the artist’s gaze = the remnant ...usually a fine work. In this case...a masterful Sepia painting. WONDERful!..LF
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you so much, Laurel. You are right about having time constraints being a catalyst in creating. It seems to help one hyper focus.
